Hey Beautiful,
Welcome to the second part of this blog post. If you haven’t read the first one check it out here. This post will make much more sense, trust me!
I’m super excited for this year, as I’m usually am for any year really. Like I mention before I’m a very goal-oriented person and find nothing more appealing that crushing my goals.
From trial and error, I have learned some things along the way, either from reading books, watching videos or just things that I myself practice here are some ways that you can implement into your life to crush your goals this year!
01. BE VISUAL ABOUT IT
Chances are that you are a visual person. Seeing your goals hit you face first thing when you wake up is pretty darn motivational. If not painful. It’s like a nicer version of a personal trainer, the ones that you see on TV. All jokes aside, it’s a friendly reminder that, if that’s the life you want to have, then you have to work for it. I like to do visual boards yearly.
From placing them in a place where I can see them daily. You can do an old fashion board with cut out of magazines or even printing stuff off the internet. Last year, I placed mine on my wall near my bed, that way when I woke that would be one of the first things that I would see.
This year, I choose to put it on a folder in categories, I keep it on my desk for constant motivation to keep working for the things I really want to achieve for the year ahead.
02. WRITE A LETTER TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF
I did this last year and it’s so powerful. It can be on your end of 2019 self it can be your 5 years from now self. Write down the type of person you want to be, what you want to have accomplished by then. Write how you want to feel, where you want to be physically, emotionally, spiritually etc. Don’t be afraid to be descriptive and get down to the bone.
Have it in a place where you’ll see it often and let it be a reminder to yourself daily to work towards those goals.
No one but yourself knows the struggles and the successes that you have to go through in order to get to the place where you want to be, so be an inspiration for the younger version of you and the future you to keep working on being the better you and with your own words make them a reality.
03. BE CRISTAL CLEAR ABOUT YOUR GOALS
For instance, if your goal is to move out on your own you need to be as clear as possible on how you’re going to achieve that.
Like First, do some research on the area you were thinking of moving to. Second, find out how much money you will need to move out. Third, maybe you thought about having roommates to lower the cost of rent and bills. What kinds of person would you be interested in having as a roommate?
There are so many things to consider and breaking them down into small manageable steps and being very clean on each step will make such a big difference in achieving your goals.
Focus on one big goal and then sit down and write down what smaller steps you can take daily to achieve those goals.
04. BREAKING IT DOWN INTO MANAGEABLE STEPS
A big lesson that I learned from last year was to break everything down into manageable steps. I used to have big monthly goals and always felt like I was having more than I could chew and I would feel burned out.
Instead, I decided that I’m going to focus on three goals every 3 months and check with myself monthly instead. That way, It’s not just a goal, but a habit.
Talking about habits, making your goals habits. Like making it a habit to save up a part of your money for an apartment. Makes it so that you are working towards that goals daily and like I mention above being crystal clear about what your goals are and having small achievable steps makes them a part of your daily life a reality.
05. CREATE DEADLINES
I used to do this all the time in college. (well, If I’m being honest mostly my freshman year when I was an A student.) Whenever we had an assignment due, I would create a deadline a week to a few days before the actual deadline.
That way I put the pressure on myself to do it, no excuses. There was the instructor’s deadline and then my own. Have a time period of when you want to accomplish your goal. Again, like I mentioned before know the exact date of when you want to complete that goal because that way you will feel more motivated to getting it done. You’re driven to work every day, so when you do get to that day you will have accomplished your goal.
06. LEARN TO SAY… NO
It can be hard trust me I’ve been there, when friends are asking if you want to go out to the movies. It’s easy to enjoy yourself when your there, but the feeling of finishing something you know you have to do and then having fun will be so much more rewarding. Plus, if friends tell you that a week before if you want to hang out isn’t that motivation enough for you to crush your goal first and then go hang out with them?
And last, but not least…
07. REVIEW AND REFLECT
In a notebook, a piece of paper, a post-it-note, or a doc on your computer reflect on why you want to accomplish these goals. Again write as detail as possible and do this daily and/or weekly basis.
You’re “Why” is what is going to keep you going especially through tough times. For instance, if you want to save up for a car, but you find yourself at the store. You have the choice of saving up that money towards the car you want OR you can use that money towards whatever you’re going to purchase.
Reflecting in on yourself is what is going to allow you to achieve your goals if they always remain present.
There you have it, folks, a few tips to help you crush your new year’s resolutions.
