“NO BEAUTY SHINES BRIGHTER THAN A GOOD HEART”
In today’s society, we tend to measure our worth based on how we look and that usually entails based on what we weigh, but there is a bigger weight that we don’t put into consideration and that is true health and happiness. Being a certain weight, trust me, will NOT bring you any true happiness.
I have always been on the slender side and because of it, people think they have an opinion about me. My journey to true self-love started like I imagine many of us starts, which is the bad parts.
I’ve always been skinny, and no, not because I don’t eat, or because I’m dieting (a word I have learned to dislike!) or whatever other misconception people make about naturally thin people. All of these are not true.
The inspiration for writing this blog post started from Reading “How I Quit The Body Image Wars” by Julia Dellitt, where she states, “Even though society tells me that being called “thin” is supposed to be a compliment, it makes me feel uncomfortable.”
This is so true, I cannot recall how many times I have had somebody come up to me and tell me that, “wow, you are so thin, are you naturally like that?” and yes, yes I am, but when you come up to a person and the first thing you talk about is there is how “thin” they are. It’s so disrespectful.
To me, loving my body for what it is, is a lifelong journey. It is not something that happens overnight or has a specific day, it make take me months, years, and it varies from everyone and it is also something that takes time to do. And even till this day, I battle with other people’s opinions about my body.
INSTEAD…
But whatever body shape or size you are, the best advice that I can give you is to own it and feel comfortable in your own skin, others will see it and they will not question you.
Treat your body kindly, nourish it with good food, but don’t deprive yourself of food you crave, because that is what dieting is, which to me means not living. Listen to your body, when you need a break, take a break. If you need to have a cup of coffee with a friend, hit them up.
You will look and feel so much better when you are not defined by others expectation of looking a certain way.
Don’t forget to be the best version of you, love.
