Hey you!
Recently I’ve been obsessing over Shawn Mendes (uhm! Hello Calvin Kline Photo Shoot!). Anyways besides going crazy over these pictures I’ve also been more into his music and one song that has been standing out to me has been, In My Blood. It hits you in the soul especially when you aren’t going through good days.
I guess that song inspired this blog post. I’ve been going though a bit of a funk lately, okay well more than a bit. These are some things that even I have to remind myself from time to time.
01. Give yourself grace
Forgive yourself for the “mistakes” you’ve made. Be patient and kind to yourself, that life that you want is going to come to you, everything is going to workout and then you will laugh looking back at how much you’re worried over something that might not even matter later. If you are trying to get a job and you don’t hear any responses, give yourself grace because the right job and the right things will come in to your life.
02. Speak Kindly To Yourself
I find that I tend to do this more often than not. I pump up my friends, I KNOW that they are capable of doing great things. Or the people that we admire, every time something great happens to them we think, “of course they are going to do that because they are amazing.” Those same thoughts you have about other people that you look up to, should be the thoughts that you should have about yourself.
One of my favorite chapter from the book “You Are A Badass At Making Money” by Jen Sincero talks about the way that you speak about yourself, the way that you think about yourself is the first step to self-love and self-acceptance.
03. It’s okay to say no and look after yourself first.
My mom is one of the most selfless people I know, from a young age I remember that when we didn’t have food she would rather we eat then her. She is one of the most hard working people I know, from stories she tells us about her childhood working doing random jobs to buy things like cloths etc.
I always like to remind her to take care of herself to get her hair done, to buy herself a new outfit. Little things to take care of yourself physically make a big difference in how you feel overall.
04. Validate your feelings
Every time I feel low and my energy is down I tend to get into my head allot and over think things, but something that I also catch myself doing is playing down how I’m feeling. I always think, there are other people who are doing worse than me and I’m here feeling sad about a,b, and c.
As true as that statement might be because there is always going to be someone who is going through something worse than you. It’s also important to know that you’re feelings and what you are going through matter. They might not be as major as someone else who is facing hunger or don’t have a roof over their head, but what is going on in your life matters too.
