How To Take Good Notes To Pass Any Class Or Exam

If you haven’t had the chance go check out my last blog post “Planner Set-Up for 2021”

Am I the only one that has fallen down a rabbit hole or people with the most beautiful and ✨aesthetically✨ pleasing hand writing? Just me, okay.

I think one of the greatest things that we can do for ourselves is make something fun and by making it fun we are more willing to do it.

Studying for an exam that stresses you out can make it even more difficult when you are missing papers from your notebook or when your notes have coffee stains, that you don’t know if you used that as a coaster or what the notes even say.

Making notes cute is never a bad thing, plus I know that there are classes where some students need a notetaker and professors give extra credit for the semester which is a great way to pass a class.

I am focusing on getting my real estate licenses and It’s an exam that has a lot of content which means a lot of words that I have to remember. My goal is just to take parts of the chapter, one at a time, and go from there.

I highly recommend following note-taking accounts on Instagram, Pinterest, and WeHeartIt. They inspire you to even take pictures of your notes and let the world know what you are working on and it’s a cycle of inspiring people.

Studying Tips

FIND A QUITE PLACE TO STUDY

At times it can be hard to focus on studying when there are so many distractions around. That is why making sure that having a clean space is so important.

Usually, I would be heading off to a library or sometimes to a coffee shop to study but things have been different lately, so you have to do what you can to make a space easy for you to focus on your work.

Try to make a space of your room, dorm, or apartment where you are focused on studying.

For me, since I share a space with my siblings and I don’t have a quiet space I go to the dining room, place my headphones on,  burn a candle and get to work.

CREATE BEAUTIFUL NOTES

When you create beautiful notes you are more inspired to study and maybe you might want to create an Instagram or TikTok Page dedicated to these notes and it might help you stay accountable and create beautiful notes.

You can also follow other people that have Instagram dedicated to organization, productivity, and creating beautiful notes. All you have to do is search on the bar.

Create a board on Pinterest or have a folder where you save all of the beautiful notes that you find and use them as inspiration to create your notes.

HAVE A COLOR THEME FOR EACH CHAPTER

This kind of goes hand in hand with creating beautiful notes. By adding color you can make your notes more noticeable and also color helps you stay focus on notes.

I bought a pack of markers and you can always color coordinate also based on the subject. That is what I used to do for school.

You can always just markers, colored pencils, and even crayons. Just try to make it fun and trust me you will be more willing to study. You can always color coordinate based on the color wheel and use that to create esthetically pleasing notes.

FLASH CARDS & STUDY GUIDES

Another great way to study is by creating flashcards with the keywords and taking them wherever you go that way you can use any time to study the material.

You can’t know 100 chapters worth of content, but if you break it down and study often it makes it easier to remember what you have to know for an exam or to pass the class.

If you haven’t already check out my post on planning for 2021 and the notebooks that I will be using.

SCHOOL ORGANIZATION

By Organizing your notes & your study guides you can more easily able to pass your exams.

When I was in school I would color coordinate my notes based on my readings and I would intentionally leave about 5 lines of space in between topics and with a red pen I would go back and write down things that I didn’t get down from the reading.

After, when I would go back to create a study guide I knew what the professor said and also what I got from my readings.

USE FREE ONLINE RESOURCES

There are so many hacks now for studying from sites that show you the answers to almost any exam. To videos where you can watch when while you are doing your hair and makeup.

Take advantage of these resources that are there already and for FREE.

Once I passed my class because I found all of the answers on Quizlet. I was pretty lucky that in college these resources are out there and it made school a lot easier.

So, if you are in school or if graduated and you are working towards taking an exam to get to that next level in your career try using these free resources.

SEPARATE YOUR WORK

Have a designated notebook, journal, folder, or binder divider for each of your classes and even separate those into smaller sections by separating by chapter or even by notes, study guides, and vocabulary terms and definitions.

TIMER & STUDY BREAKS

You can always use the timer feature on your phone and work for 30 minutes and take a 10-15 minute break and try to do something that is away from your phone or your computer because it can be so easy to fall back into the habit of watching one more episode or watching one more TikTok and then waisting hours on them.

Try something like using that time to just stretch, read a physical book, tidying up your space.

Once the timer goes off you can close that book and continue studying.

STUDY GROUPS

It can be hard right now because people are not supposed to socialize because of the current way the world is, but you can always text someone who is in the same boat as you.

If you create a group on FB or even on TikTok where you inspire each other and even form study groups.

You can always create a study group and go over the chapters or the study guides with your group over Zoom.

STUDY IN CHUNKS

When you break things down into manageable steps, the overall task does not feel as overwhelming and impossible. If it feels overwhelming to study for a whole chapter, break the chapter down into sections.

Maybe you can go over three pages every single day and that might be a bit hard for people if they are working and they have other obligations.

So many you might break that down even further by focusing on each section for 30 minutes and then taking breaks.

If you take it little by little each time then it will get easier to remember all of that information.
