32 Years Old Traditions, Goals, Reflection

I usually wait for the New Year to make goals for so many people, but my birthday is in the fourth quarter of the year and I have always believed that you do not need to wait until the New Year to make goals.

This year, I will be making goals for my birthday and reflecting on what I accomplished, what I can change, and what my goals for my birthday will be.

I don’t know if it’s a Scorpio thing but all year I am looking forward to my birthday and then when it’s the week of, I get the birthday blues. Just me?! Or do others feel the same? Partly is because I wish people showed up for me in the way that I show up for them or I have expectations but I don’t communicate with them and I get disappointed or maybe it’s that I am reminded of what I have yet to accomplish.

Regardless, I like to have a positive outlook in life and see missteps as growth opportunities and lessons learned. I look at the positive side of things and remain optimistic when moving forward.

WHAT I ACCOMPLISHED ALREADY

The beginning of the year was tough to say the least. I have a monthly reflection above my desk wall and wrote a word or phrase that made that month stand out and the first six months of the year was about being in survival mode. I made the very difficult decision to leave my teaching position. While it was met with a lot of bitter-sweet moments I was grateful to have been given the opportunity. After leaving teaching, I realized that my identity had been attached to my job and I didn’t want that to be the case.

I was no longer as curious or creative as I was before I started that job and stepping away made me realize that I was not thriving, I was surviving and the job was affecting my mental and physical health and chipping away at my soul.

The phrase of a frog dies slowly when placed in warm water and the temperature gets turned up compared to a frog that gets thrown into boiling water. It made me realize that I was going through a slow and painful death by staying at this job. I was no longer willing to be that.

Healing has been watching C-dramas. I made a blog post about some of my favorite C-dramas and they have really uplifted me. I have not fallen into total depression because I have a show to look forward to everyday. I started in July and have not looked back since and It has made me feel really good. Watching these strong women has inspired me to keep moving forward. Overall, C-dramas have been something new that I discovered this year that has me so excited and because of it. I would love to visit China in the future and have a list of places I want to see and explore.

WHAT I NEED TO CHANGE

I need to change my mindset. Getting back up after “failure” and taking it as growth and acting quickly. I have improved in this area of my life. Teaching being a major one. I worked so hard for my credential and getting it cleared. Being an educator in California is not an easy task and yet I did it. Instead of lamenting that it did not work out for me at the moment. I am grateful for the place that it got me to. I take the lessons that I learned from working in Education and apply them to other fields.

Changing my people pleasing tendencies – I realized how I will give 100 percent to others and not show up for myself the way that I do for friends and family and even people that I work with. I hate confentration, but slowly realized that the only person I am hurting is myself by putting others’ needs above my own.

Putting in the same or more of an effort into what I love instead of other people. This is kind of on the same note as people pleasing. I have always thought, I can make x,y, and z better. So, putting in just as much effort into my ideas like the way I put in effort.

Learn to make my dreams and ideas and bring them to life and turn them into a reality. I have a strong work ethic and now it’s time to use that work ethic and show up for the things that matter to me and what I value.

MY GOALS FOR MY BIRTHDAY

  1. 1,000 rejections challenge and not being afraid to try new things out of fear of failure. Being scared actually motivates me.

  2. Creating a small apartment in our house – decorating it into a cute space. Remodeling my house.

  3. Making plans to move to LA – Brentwood or Los Feliz, Los Angeles. Even if it’s temporary for a season of my life. I have always wanted to live in LA.

  4. Putting myself out there for dating – something that I have been not interested in because I was focused on my career and dating was not a priority.

  5. Hobbies and showing up for myself – leaning into what makes me curious and what brings me joy.

  6. Multi-million stationary business – Even if it’s not a multi-million stationary business at the beginning I cannot wait to make it happen and make it a reality.

  7. Traveling way more this year – making it a priority. This has been on my bucket list for too long and making it a reality is a priority.
